To blog or not to blog? This is a question I've been asking myself a lot lately.
There was a lot to consider. Do I have the time to write? About what would I write? Can I stomach using WordPress?
I knew I wouldn't be happy with WordPress. The thought of tinkering in the underlying PHP code didn't sit well. The solution – roll my own blog engine using rails. I know, I know...why reinvent the wheel? Well, I can't give you a good answer except hacking around in your own ruby code is a hellava lot more enjoyable than the alternative (no offense meant to WordPress). It also gave me an excuse to open source my personal site
Now, what to write about? That's a tough one. You see, I have a lot of interests about a lot of unrelated stuff. As an example, I have a degree in Athletic Training yet make a living as a Software engineer...and that's only the tip of the iceberg. So, how to choose what interests to cover? The answer – I choose not to choose. I've decided this isn't my blog about "x." I will write about whatever inspires a post and try to tag appropriately. This attitude combined with my sometimes paradoxical interests also inspired the title of my blog – "The Wayward Traveler."
Lastly, the time issue. Simple really. I’m not going to promise any schedule of blog posts (at least for now). I will post when I am so inspired to write, no apologies.
So, back to the original question, "To blog or not to blog?" I have decided to embark on a new journey of discovery. I have decided to blog (for now at least). Thank you for being a part of it! Let the journey continue.
